Aman Gupta of OSU to forego college for golf

Aman Gupta, the 22-year-old Indian American who was a semifinalist at the 2020 US Amateur Championship and has completed three years at Oklahoma State University , has announced he will be turning pro instead after competing in the NCAA College Championship finals this month.

Gupta, is ranked 58th in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, and revealed his decision on social media.

“I will be foregoing my final year of college golf and turning professional at the end of this season. I cannot wait to make one last run at Nationals later this week with this incredible team as we chase our 12th national championship. I like our chances.”

The 22-year-old from North Carolina shot 73-65-77 in the opening three rounds at Nationals and is currently tied-25th, having dropped 23 spots after shooting 77 in round 3. His OSU team trials Oklahoma by four shots after rounds of 289-277-277. The final round will be played today.

On Day 2 on Saturday, Gupta and Ole Miss’ Jackson Suber produced the two lowest rounds at 5-under (65).

In Nov. 2021, Aman Gupta was expected to represent India at the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship in Yas Links, Abu Dhabi, based on his Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) status. However, he later committed to play another college event during the same week and did not part in the event.

Born in Easley in South Carolina, Gupta is an American, but also holds an Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) card, which gives him an opportunity to play for India. His father, Kapil, hails from Amritsar and his mother Aradhana is from Mumbai.

In 2020, Aman Gupta finished the semi-finals at the US Amateur Championship and has had several top finishes in his college career. In 2017, Gupta made it through the first stage of Web.Com Tour (now Korn Ferry Tour) Qualifying, and he quickly followed it with a similar result at the European Tour Qualifying after shooting 71-71-65-74.
