Anirban Lahiri and Shubhankar Sharma missed the cut in the US$ 8mn Scottish Open, which represented a historic first jointly sanctioned event between the PGA Tour and European Tour,  and with it their last chance to qualify for this week’s British Open at St Andrews. While Lahiri shot 72-72 (4-over 144) to miss the cut by a shot, Sharma followed his first round 69 with a 76 to miss the cut by three at 5-over 145.

This was Sharma’s fourth consecutive missed cut of the season and continues a worrying trend of poor play. He last made the cut in May at the Dutch Open, where he finished tied for 14th.

The tournament was won by the in-form American Olympic gold medal winner Xander Schauffele, who shot 72-65-66-70 (7-under 273) to win by one giving him his 3rd consecutive win after the Travelers Championship (June 23-26) and the JP McManus Pro-Am (July 4-5), an unofficial event.  His victory also moved him to fifth on the World Rankings.
