Lahiri missed out an Open berth with his weekend rounds

Anirban Lahiri raised Indian hopes of recording a top 3 finish which would have got him into the British Open at St Andrews after opening with rounds of 69-67 but a 3rd round 74 dropped him way down the leaderboard before he finished with a 67 and four day total of 7-under 277 to finish tied 51st in the PGA Tour’s US$ 7.1mn John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run in Illinois.

Lahiri also made his first cut after missing three in a row. It has been an up and down year for the 35-year-old Olympian. He has only made 10 cuts in 20 events but still ranks 63rd in the FedEx Cup Rankings thanks to his runner-up finish at the US$ 20mn Players Championship in March.

American J.T. Poston went wire-to-wire to claim his second PGA Tour title and a spot in the 2022 British Open. He shot 62-65-67-69 (21-under) for a three-shot win over fellow Open qualifiers Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Emiliano Grillo.

Lahiri will now head to Scotland to join Shubhankar Sharma in the US$ 8mn Scottish Open from July 7-10 which is co-sanctioned by the PGA and European Tours as part of their new long term agreement.
