31-year-old Neha Tripathi of Kolkata shot 73-72-70 (1-under 215) to stay ahead of the teenage amateur barrage and emerge victorious in the Hero WPGT’s 10th Leg held at Prestige Golfshire, Bangalore. She won by one shot over amateurs Vidhatri Urs of Mysore ( first cousin of Pranavi Urs) who won the last WPGT event at Golfshire by a whopping 9 strokes and Saanvi Somu of Bangalore.
Tripathi had entered the final round trailing Vidhatri by one and shot 70 while Urs shot 72. Somu shot 73-74-69 to catch Urs at even-par 216.
Several of India’s top lady pros were missing the event since they are competing elsewhere in Europe or taking a break before heading back overseas.
After Neha scored her first victory since January 2019, she said “This feels really good and is a testament to the hard work I have put in over the past 2-3 years,” Tripathi said. “I never lost faith in myself despite falling short on previous occasions.”
Tripathi was the only professional to finish in the top four as another teenage amateur Mannat Brar, of Chandigarh, currently leading the IGU Ladies standings, finished fourth with rounds of 72-76-70 (2-over 218).
Additionally, two amateurs finished tied for eighth place. This leg also marked the third consecutive tournament in which an amateur has finished in the top two.
The win moved Tripathi up into the third spot on the Hero Order of Merit. Sneha Singh and Seher Atwal occupy the top two spots.
This week the tour plays at Bangalore Golf Club where after round one Sneha Singh, Seher Atwal and amateur Mannat Brar share the lead.
