Parent – child relationships, the presence of living legends like Tiger Woods, Anika Sorenstam, Vijay Singh, John Daly, Nelly Korda and others created a huge emotional response among players, media and spectators as the annual PNC Championship was staged again in Florida amidst much hoopla.

Despite Tiger and his 14 year old son Charlie Woods, hogging the bulk of the media limelight, as could be expected, in the end it was 59 year old former World No 1, Fijian Vijay Singh and his grown up son Qass who took the title with back to back rounds of 59 to win by two-strokes over the Daly’s and  2020 winners the Thomas’ led by Justin Thomas playing with his father.

“This is what we wanted forever,” Qass said, now 32 and working in insurance. “Sixteen years,” his father interjected. “Way too long, but it’s about time,” Qass said. “So I’m thrilled. I’m so happy. This is already the best week, so this is just making it … no words can describe. It’s going to be a memory I’m going to have forever.”

Last year’s runners-up team of Tiger Woods shot 59-65 (20-under 124) to finish tied-8th at the Ritz Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Florida.

The newcomers Anika Sorenstam and her teenage son also were a crowd favourite with the mother – son duo enjoying themselves thoroughly.

The PNC Championship is an annual golf tournament for two-player teams, consisting of PGA Tour, LPGA Tour and Champions Tour golfers and (usually) their sons. It is played over two days (36 holes) for the Willie Park Trophy, in memory of the father and son British Open champions Willie Park Sr. and Willie Park Jr. The field of twenty teams plays a scramble format.
