The PGA Tour has started the new 2022-23 season, with the US$ 8mn Fortinet Championship, in Napa, California and Indian origin Sahith Theegala, started his new season strongly shooting 67-69-71-70 (11-under 277) to finish tied-6th.
Theegala had finished a highly creditable 28th in the FedExCup Rankings in his rookie year last season, raking in official prize money of US$ 3.1mn with five top-5 finishes.
Theegala will be seen in the PGA Tour’s next event, the Sanderson Farms Championship in Mississippi in a season which sees far enhanced prize money. Theegala will want to continue his strong form to ensure his entry into the elite set of 12 events planned for the top 60 ranked players which will each carry purses of US$20 million, the PGA Tour’s answer to the LIV GOLF threat.
