The Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) announced unprecedented purses for the 2nd half of 2023, with 14 tournaments averaging over Rs 1 crore. The prize money for the second half of the PGTI season totals a record INR 15.25 crore, propelling the total prize purse for the season to more than INR 33.35 crore, by far a new record for the PGTI which stood at under Rs 10 crore just a couple of years ago.
This annual prize money figure doesn’t include money from the US$2 million Hero Indian Open ( a DP World Tour event) or the US$750,000 DGC Open presented by Mastercard ( An Asian Tour event). It does include the two US$300,000 European Challenge tour events held this March at KGA, Bangalore.
The tour received a boost from its growing relationship with Tata Steel as well as the recent tie up with the PGA and DP World (European) Tours.
Three new events feature on the calendar: the India Cements Pro Championship (August 16th-19th), the Coimbatore Open (August 22nd-25th), and the Vizag Open (September 20th-23rd).
Fans can also look forward to the second editions of two popular tournaments: the Kapil Dev-Grant Thornton Golf Invitational presented by DLF at the DLF Golf & Country Club in Gurugram, scheduled from November 29th to December 2nd, and the SSP Chawrasia Invitational presented by TAKE at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club, taking place from December 7th to 10th. These tournaments give PGTI tour players a valuable opportunity to play iconic courses.
