Rashid Khan posts top-20 finish in Thailand

Two-time Asian Tour winner Rashid Khan shot 69-65-76-66 (4-under 276) to finish in a tie for 18th at the US$ 1mn Laguna Phuket Championship. The tournament, the second to be held in Thailand since the Asian Tour returned from a 20-month hiatus caused by the pandemic, was won by Thailand’s Phachara Khongwatmai with a score of 10-under. A third-round 76 knocked Khan out of contention, though he rebounded with a 4-under final round to earn US$ 11,000 (₹8.27 lacs).

Seven of the 14 Indians in the field made the cut. Three-time Asian tour winner Shiv Kapur shot 67-74-66-70 (3-under 277) to finish tied for 24th while Veer Ahlawat, last week’s top Indian finisher, and Khalin Joshi, the 2018 Panasonic Open India winner, tied for 36th.

Here are the final positions for each of the Indian players who made the cut: 

Rashid Khan – T-18th (-4); Shiv Kapur – T-24th (-3); Khalin Joshi & Veer Ahlawat – T-36th (E); Chikkarangappa S. – T-51st (+2); Udayan Mane – T-68th (+8) & Karandeep Kochhar – T-73rd (+13).
