Yuvraj Sandhu notches up yet another top 10 finish

Yuvraj Singh Sandhu of Chandigarh and Udayan Mane of Pune tied for seventh at the US$ 75,000 Laguna Phuket Cup in Thailand, a 54-hole event jointly sanctioned by the Asian Development Tour and the MENA ( Middle East & North Africa) Tour who have decided to join hands this year. The event was played from May 8 to 10.

The 25-year-old Singh shot 69-66-66 while the 31-year-old Mane shot 68-70-63 to finish at  9-under 201, five shots behind the winner Sarun Sirithon of Thailand.

Unfortunately, they both just missed out boosting on their world golf rankings, as ADT offers points only to the top-6 and ties in its events.

So far in 2022, Yuvraj has been in great form with two PGTI wins and  five top-10s, including a tied-6th finish at the Delhi GC Open on the Asian Tour.  Meanwhile Mane, who was in great form in 2020-21,  has seen a dip in form making only two cuts in the seven events he has played this year.

The other Indian pros in the field who missed the cut, which was set at 2-under 138, included:

Yashas Chandra – 73-66 (-1), Chiragh Kumar – 72-67 (-1); Divyanshu Bajaj – 73-68 (+1)

Kartik Sharma – 73-70 (+3); Sunit Chowrasia – 72-72 (+4); M Dharma – 76-71 (+7)

Karan Vasudeva – 74-77 (+11) & Rohan Kathuria – 76-77 (+13)

At the next ADT & MENA event, the US$ 75,000 event at Blue Canyon GC in Phuket, 21-year-old Kartik Sharma of Gurgaon shot 66-67-69 (11-under 202) to finish in a tie for fifth.

Said Kartik “ I didn’t get into the event until the last day and played a practice round. I would say the biggest difference this week was my putter. I just putted really well. I had a conversation with my brother about something in putting and just stuck to that and putted awesome.”

Udayan Mane had led after the opening round with a 63 but subsequently faded with rounds of 71 and 70 to finish tied for 13th alongside M Dharma (66-71-67).

The other Indians who made the cut in Phuket were:
