Shubhankar Sharma took a one-shot lead into the weekend at the US$ 1.9mn Magical Kenya Open at Muthaiga GC in Nairobi, Kenya after opening with rounds of 65-67 (10-under). However, the 25-year-old, two-time winner on the European Tour, had a difficult back nine Saturday to end up shooting 75 and falling out of contention. 

A closing 69 left him in a tie for 13th at 8-under, for which he collected US$ 29,000 (₹22 lacs). China’s Ashun Wu (16-under) won the tournament by four shots.

Sharma, the only Indian player with a full card on the European Tour has played five events this season and finished tied-2nd at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship to be comfortably positioned for the rest of the season. 

Sharma will now head to South Africa to play the US$ 1.5 mn MyGolfLife Open from March 10-13.
