Summer Sun Warning – Protect your skin

As temperatures rise, it’s important to protect your skin from sunburn

Readers may have noticed players like World nos 1 & 2,  Jon Rahm &  Rory Mcilroy and others always show up at tournaments with a generous amount of sunscreen lotion applied on their faces and necks. With the summer now in full force across India – As a golfer or active person who spends a lot of time outdoors, it’s important to understand the dangers of UV rays and the importance of protecting your and your childrens’ skin as they play outside. UV rays are a type of radiation that can cause a range of damage to your skin, from premature aging and sunburns to a higher risk of skin cancer and even immune suppression.

The intensity of UV rays can vary depending on the time of day, time of year, altitude, and weather conditions. To help you understand the risks, there is a UV index that measures the strength of UV radiation in your city.. As a golfer or parent of a golfer, it’s important to be aware of the UV index and take appropriate precautions to protect your skin.

One important tip is to avoid the sun between 10 am and 4 pm, when the UV rays are at their strongest.

Here are a few of the biggest risks :

  1. Skin cancer: Prolonged exposure to the sun can increase your risk of developing skin cancer, including deadly melanoma.
  2. Premature aging: UV rays can also cause premature aging, including wrinkles, sunspots, and sagging skin. Protecting your skin can help keep it looking youthful and healthy.
  3. Eye damage: UV rays can damage your eyes, leading to cataracts, macular degeneration, and other vision problems. Wearing sunglasses with UV protection can help protect your eyes.
  1.     Heat exhaustion: Spending too much time in the sun without protection can also lead to heat exhaustion, which can be dangerous or even deadly in extreme cases.

 To protect your skin, wear hats and full-sleeved clothing, stay in the shade when possible, and wear protective eye wear. Most importantly, use sunscreen with a suitable SPF range at least 30 for Indian skin and apply it at least 20 minutes prior to heading out and reapply every two hours, especially if you are near water, sand or snow. A water-resistant sunscreen is also important, especially if you are sweating or swimming.

One particular sunscreen  which seems particularly effective is moha: sunscreen spray which is a India’s first sunscreen spray with rice bran oil.

Remember, prevention is key when it comes to protecting your skin from sun damage. Even the best professional players in the world – both men and women take great care in applying sunscreen every few holes during the round, so you should follow their lead.
