Golfing legend and three-time major champion, Payne Stewart was remembered around the world as he would have turned 64 on Jan.30th, 2021.

Stewart played and won 24 times across the world, including a win at the 1981 Indian Open, where he defeated the Taiwanese duo of Ho Ming-chung and Hsu Shen-san by four-strokes at the iconic Delhi Golf Club. He also played at Royal Calcutta in 1979 and 1980.

Stewart was a popular golfer with spectators, who responded enthusiastically to his distinctive clothing. He was reputed to have the biggest wardrobe of all professional golfers and a favourite of photographers because of his flamboyant attire of ivy caps and patterned “plus fours” pants.

Stewart died on October 25, 1999, in a crash of a private jet, taking off near his home in Orlando, headed to Texas for the final event of the season.

At the time of his death, Stewart had won over US$12 million on the PGA Tour and at the time ranked among the top 10 in the All time earnings list.

He will always be remembered for his style and class, a beautiful long syrupy swing and friendly personality.
