PGA TOUR cancels THE PLAYERS Championship and more events

28-year-old, Japanese golf star, Hideki Matsuyama, finished his opening round with 9-under 63, quickly making him a favourite to win THE PLAYERS Championship at TPC Sawgrass.

But, it was not to be.

Later in the day, PGA TOUR announced to go ahead with the tournament, without the fans, starting Friday (second-round) and after the conclusion of the day the tour announced cancelling the event until the Valero Texas Open (Apr. 2-5). The next event on the tour, is The Masters from April 9-12, where Tiger Woods will be looking ahead to defend his title and earn a sixth green jacket.

Post round announcement from PGA TOUR –

Previously, Hero Indian Open, scheduled at DLF Golf & Country Club was announced as postponed due to COVID-19 outbreak. The event became the fourth one to be cancelled/postponed on the European Tour schedule since the virus outbreak.
