PGTI Final Qualifying this week

Amateur Shaurya Sharma shot 10-under 134 to win Pre-Q II in Golmuri, Jamshedpur

After completing three pre qualifiers of 36 holes each featuring around 100 – 120 players each, The Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) is holding its final qualifier over 72 holes at Tollygunge Club in Kolkata.

Aniket Sawant won the Pre-Qualifier I with a total score of 13-under 131 and a total of 25 others made it to the Final Stage from there.

In Pre-Qualifier II (Jan. 24-25), 22-year-old amateur Shaurya Sharma shot 66-68 (10-under 132) to win it by five strokes over Kartik Digvijay Singh 72-67 (5-under 137). A total of 105 players entered the qualifier and 23 players qualified for the final stage after shooting 2-over 146 or better at the event.

In Pre-Qualifier III (Jan. 27-28), 23-year-old Varun Chopra of USA who graduated from Northwestern University in 2022 shot 62-71 (11-under 133) to join 21-year-old amateur Aryaman  Lal from Mumbai, who shot 68-65 (11-under 133), as the joint-winner of the pre-qualifier.

Aryaman Aditya Mohan Lal is a Sports Management student at Long Island University in Brookville, NewYork.

A total of 74 players progressed from the Pre Qualifying Stage. They will join another 53 players in the Final Stage, taking the number of players in the field to 127. The Final Stage will be held from January 31 to February 3 at the Tollygunge Club in Kolkata.

The final is a 72-hole event and offers players tour cards which gives them playing rights in the 2023 PGTI Tour across  categories based on their finishing positions in the qualifier:

Category A – Full Card for the top 34 players

Category B – Players outside the top 34 but who played all four rounds of the Final Qualifier. 

Category C – Players who played in the final but missed the cut.
