Zara Anand, the 14-year-old scratch handicap student at Shiv Nadar School in Noida, shot consistent rounds of 74-72-75 (5-over 221) to finish tied-5th at The Girls’ U16 Amateur Championship conducted by the R&A at Enville, England.

In 2022, Zara Anand shot  81-79-78 (22-over 238) to finish tied-30th at the tournament, which underlines the progress she has made in the past year. With Zara probably getting one more crack at the event in 2024, just before she turns 16, she would surely be in contention.

The U16 Amateur Championship is a 54-hole stroke play event introduced in 2018 by The R&A to boost the girls’ game in Great Britain and Ireland, and provide a pathway to the elite amateur level for leading young players.

Last week Zara won the IGU’s Haryana Ladies & Junior Girls Golf Championship at Panchkula Golf Club in Category A&B combined by six-strokes which shows she is now a force to deal with in the ladies category of Indian golf.
