Augusta takes its toll on big names

It was painfully obvious but remarkable nevertheless that 3 of the pre tournament favourites, defending champion and World No 1 Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka all failed to make the halfway cut which fell at 3 over par 147.

Round one took its toll as the course played  harder and faster than expected. Also at Augusta, the penalty for a marginal error is huge and if you miss the greens on the wrong side or even have your approach shot settle on the wrong level, there is little or no chance of getting up and down.

Yes, sometimes even players of this caliber can get derailed at a course as severely penalizing as Augusta.
