35-year-old, 11-time Asian Tour winner, Gaganjeet Bhullar, carded rounds of 67-67-65-68 (21-under par) to register a comfortable four-shot win for his 13th title on the PGTI at Chandigarh Open at Chandigarh Golf Club.

Bhullar and Chandigarh local Angad Cheema were neck and neck entering the final round of the competition, both sitting atop the leaderboard at 17-under par. Bhullar’s stellar final round of 68 outshone Cheema’s 72, securing Bhullar’s victory.

Cheema’s struggles with accuracy off the tee hindered his chances of contending for the title in the last round, as he frequently missed fairways. Despite carding two birdies and two bogeys, Cheema couldn’t mount a serious challenge. Notably, Cheema has been seeking his second tour win for the past decade since his triumph at the Diablo Enterprise International in 2013.

Bhullar’s triumph marked his third win at the Chandigarh Golf Club, where he surpassed the previous best 72-hole total set at 20-under 268 by Ajeetesh Sandhu and Rashid Khan during the Jeev Milkha Singh Invitational in 2019. Ajeetesh ultimately clinched victory in that event via a playoff.

Bhullar, took home the winning cheque worth Rs. 15 lakh to be placed seventh on the TATA Steel PGTI Ranking, said, “I knew about the 72-hole course record being within my grasp but the target in my mind was 25-under for the week. The way I was playing, I thought I could achieve it. I came close and had those few putts fallen on the back-nine, it was well within my reach.
