India’s leading coaches came together for IGU “Train the Tutors” program in Gurgaon

In a concerted effort to enhance the quality of golf instruction in India, the Indian Golf Union and the IGU’s National Golf Academy of India (IGU-NGAI) partnered with the Confederation of Professional Golf (CPG) to organise a “Train the Tutors” program. The event, held at Le Meridien, Gurgaon, from May 3rd to May 6th, 2024, saw enthusiastic participation from 15 Teaching Staff (TS) and Assistant Teaching Staff (ATS) members of IGU-NGAI.

Under the guidance of esteemed golf instructor Mr. Jim Van Heuven Van Staereling, representing the PGA of Holland and also a part of CPG, the program aimed to elevate the expertise and teaching standards prevalent within India’s golfing community. Notably, a half-day session took place at the Zen Golf driving range in Gurgaon, providing practical insights and hands-on training to the attendees.
India’s current status as an Associate Member of CPG necessitates meeting specific criteria outlined by the international body to attain full membership.

Expressing satisfaction with the calibre of Indian teaching staff and the comprehensive IGU-NGAI teaching manual, Mr. Van Heuven Van Staereling expressed optimism. He envisages that India, with concerted efforts and dedication, could meet the requisite learning systems within a couple of years, thus positioning itself as a full-fledged member of CPG.
